Last month, Algotherm sent over their Marine Life Serum for me to test out, and I can't tell you how excited I was! If you don't understand the extent of my skincare junkie-dom, please see here, where this features in my morning routine.

Prior to switching over to this, I was using The Body Shop's Drops of Youth, and I was having some issues with it because my skin had become somewhat tolerant to it after 2 months. So, I promptly switched things up, which is usually the answer to all life's problems!

But first, what are the hallmarks of Algotherm's offering?

This Marine Life Serum contains technology, patented by Algotherm, which targets 35 genes which directly affect anti-aging. As we all know, by the time you hit 21, you are genetically engineered to start breaking down mentally and physically (sad, but true), which is why it's so important to start using anti-aging products in your 20's. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening, and unfortunately the majority of anti-aging products out there aim to treat cosmetic issues as opposed to getting to the root of the issue: DNA!

The Algogene (yes!) patents contain contentrated extracts of Undaria Pinnatifida (wakame - a type of seaweed) for its anti-wrinkle properties, Alaria Esculenta (badderlocks - a type of seaweed) for its firming properties, Ulva Lactuca (sea lettuce) for its lifting properties and Dictyopteris Membranacea (stackhouse - a form of algae) for its anti-dark spot properties; all of which tend to be the most prominent signs of aging. With these, collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid are boosted, i.e. all the stuff you need copious amounts of!

Because appearances DO matter, it bears note that the packaging on this is gorgeous. It's very pretty, and very weighty which makes it feel like you're putting something impeccable on your skin.

The pump on this is brilliant. It dispenses a decent amount, and that's all I need for the day. At night, though, I use a pump and a half, because I like the slather stuff on at night.

This is a gorgeous serum in terms of scent and texture as well. It's a light, translucent pink gel that smells amazing, though I would be hard-pressed to give you a description. It also feels very light and luscious on the skin, and sinks in almost immediately. I like to pat it into my skin and feel it absorb because you can actively feel your skin plump up when you do. If I had my way, I would start drinking hyaluronic acid, but that might kill me.

So, how does it fare? Extremely well. It's a very lovely serum, and one that doesn't get enough credit. Something that bears importance to me is that it hasn't made my oil control issues any worse. As for whether it's improved my skin, I genuinely feel that it has. I may not have personally noticed it because I look at my mug in the mirror 300 million times a day, but a few people who I don't see on a daily basis have mentioned that my skin looks good. If a testament from fellow obsessives isn't something to take note of, I don't know what is. It's rather surprising that the difference became visible within a couple of weeks of use. I do think it's helped to subside and heal breakouts a little quicker as well, while lessening the number of new breakouts which appear. I am extremely impressed by this, and if you're looking for a good serum that's pretty to boot, this is a very good option.

The only drawback, in my view, is the price. It retails at RM320 for a 30 ml bottle. I completely agree that one shouldn't stinge on serums in particular, and if this works for your price range, definitely give it a shot. As an added bonus, you've got an opportunity to win a full-sized bottle of the stuff here

    2. I have been having more people ask me what I use since I started on this too. And you're right, the only drawback is that it is pricey and means that I have to budget for another luxury in my life but now that I understand that all serums generally are because of their concentrated benefits - I do understand the pricing. This was a very pretty and luxurious serum and I love it!

How does this compare to that other elixir you always rave about - the Estee Lauder ANR? I'm curious as I don't use that but seeing as you do you might just be perfectly placed to help me differentiate between these two potions.

    3. I like that we've had the same reactions, which means that this is truly doing wonders for our radiance levels. It took me a while to come around to the pricing on serums as well, and now that I understand it, I fully back the madness!

Unfortunately, I still think I'm an ANR fan, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that ANR doesn't produce shine on my skin as quickly, and is surprisingly cheaper. This is RM320 for 30 ml while the 30ml bottle of ANR is RM250. That's not a difference to scoff at. I can't definitively answer this as yet though. Let me go back to ANR once this is done and I'll have a better response on whether a difference is actually present. I'll do a post comparing the two.
