This was what started my love affair with Melvita, so we really need to discuss it!

Your first thought has to be a query as to what on Earth "Extraordinary Water" is! In essence, it is an essence (I had to).

What is an essence? It's a booster. Yes, this could go on tautologically forever, so let's get straight to the point: This could technically be used as a toner, but it isn't really marketed as one. It's that additional step you would use between your toner and serum/moisturiser. Is it necessary? Chocolate isn't necessary, but I need it in my life. It just adds that something extra that makes life quite lovely.

[Rose and Narcissus Extraordinary Waters]

Their Rose Extraordinary Water was my first ever Melvita purchase back in December, and because I only use this at night, I'm down to a quarter of the bottle at present. The little bottle of Narcissus was part of Bag of Love's Special Edition Bag, but in its full size, the packaging is identical to that of their Rose variety.

There is an additional variant of their Extraordinary Water, and that would be the Orange Blossom, which will be added to my collection once I'm done with this bottle. Each of them serve different purposes, so I'm rather intrigued by how well that would work.

So, why do I only use their Rose Extraordinary Water at night? Primarily because it's good for dry and/or aging skin. Since I'm one in the oil-riddled camp, but I'm also aging rapidly, I thought this would be nice and gentle enough to start things off with.

[Rose Extraordinary Water - Full Size]

And indeed, it was! It's so nice and soothing because it truly does smell like the freshest, loveliest roses in bloom! Granted there is fragrance added to it, but it doesn't smell artificial in any way.

The key thing that got me really excited was that this contains hyaluronic acid, which is why it's so good for dry and/or aging skin. Hyaluronic acid boosts hydration, which helps to combat both those issues, as well as excess oil production. All their Extraordinary Waters contain hyaluronic acid, so they would boost hydration while sorting your peripheral issues out, which aid in sorting said peripheral issues out anyway. It's a win all round.

For those of you who have gone through the ingredients list, you may have noticed that alcohol is rather high on the list as the fourth ingredient, but they actually have asterisks (*) - THREE OF THEM - next to the ingredient in order to point out that it's derived from organic materials. In any event, alcohol in certain products actually aids in keeping them safe for use for longer, especially organic and natural products. Melvita is a truly organic brand, which means that over 90% of their ingredients are naturally derived, as opposed to a vast number of organic brands which only contain a fraction of organic materials in them (5-10%). In any event, the alcohol has had no effect whatsoever on my skin, and I have no issue with it. For those of you who do, you might want to take note of it and check out of a sample of the stuff first.

As for application, it's simply. You could either pour some onto a cotton pad and swipe it all over your face, or you could pat/massage it in with your fingertips. Personally, I use both. I'll swipe it all over with a cotton pad, and then pat it into my skin gently.

The texture of this took a bit of getting used to for me. It's a liquid that's slightly more viscous that your traditional toner. It's thicker and just short of a jelly, so it won't soak right through your cotton immediately.

[Rose Extraordinary Water]

Despite it's viscosity, it absorbs rather quickly and it gives you an immediate, perceptible boost of hydration. My skin always feels more comfortable and plumped up when I use this stuff. I've found that it is a little too heavy for my skin during the day, but it's absolutely lovely at night. If you sleep an air-conditioned room, it would work wonders for preventing all the moisture from being stripped from your skin.

While their Narcissus variety does contain hyaluronic acid as well, it serves a very different purpose from that of its counterpart above.

Since it's meant to be paired with their brightening range, the easiest way to describe this is as a chemical exfoliant, albeit a mild version of the stuff.

[Narcissus Extraordinary Water - Travel Size]

This stuff contains lactic acid and various fruit extracts which all aid in chemically exfoliating the skin over time. This is not nearly as comfortable to use as the Rose Extraordinary Water because it tingles/stings (depending on your pain tolerance) a little. This is normal since it's a peel, but those of you with sensitive skin might want to steer clear of this.

I quite like it because you get used to the sensation, and it hasn't irritated my skin, but I haven't put it to the complete test as yet. I've currently become rather enamoured with these chemical exfoliators because my skin takes well to consistent and frequent exfoliation.

The texture on this is also lighter than that of the Rose variety, as it is far less viscous, and rather watery, much like a regular toner. You would definitely use a cotton pad for this, and stay well clear of your eye area. Even when I took the picture below, I could feel the acids working on my skin. It's truly a rather effective product.

[Narcissus Extraordinary Water]

As for the Orange Blossom Extraordinary Water, it functions as an ultra hydrating product, so those of you with irritated or extremely dry skin might want to look into it.

Their 100ml bottles of Extraordinary Water retail for RM88 each, which is extremely reasonable because a little goes a very long way. Plus, this is the perfect time to pick one up because Melvita is running a promotion throughout April to celebrate Earth Month.

Melvita is trying to encourage recycling, so throughout April, if you give them an empty skin care bottle, you are entitled to 10% off your purchase. If you give them a Melvita skin care empty, you are entitled to an additional 5% off. 15%! You just know I'm going to finish off my Rose Extraordinary Water and pop in for something else, don't you?

With the discount of 10%, the Extraordinary Water will cost you less than RM80, which is awesome. For those of you who don't use toners, but want an added boost to your routine, this would be the perfect way to go as well.
