I adore the fact that purples are all the rage right now as it gives me the opportunity to run amok is one of the prettiest colours around! I am well aware that we live in a country which doesn't support the seasonal aspect of fashion, but this definitely works in my favour, so I shan't complain! In my excitement, I decided to put together a post on the different types of purples out there. Of course, this isn't an exhaustive list, but it has a pretty decent range of shades and finishes.
[Let the festivities begin!]
Let's kick things off with the tinted purples in my collection. These run along the line of tinted lip balms more often than not and they provide more moisture than colour for those who suffer from dry/chapped lips, a phobia of bold colours, or both.
[Burt's Bees' Lip Shimmer in Watermelon]
[Clinique's Chubby Stick in Voluptuous Violet]
[Soap & Glory's Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Raplumzel]
Revlon has recently released a new range of shades in their Super Lustrous Lipstick collection, and these are known as Super Lustrous Shine. I've picked 2 shades from this range because they are on the slightly sheer end of the spectrum, and definitely very wearable any time of the day.
[Revlon's Super Lustrous Shine Lipsticks]
[Revlon's Super Lustrous Shine in Berry Couture]
Berry Couture has pink undertones.
[Revlon's Super Lustrous Shine in Plum Velour]
Plum Velour has blue undertones.
[MAC's Frost in Intricate]
If you're going with a bold but matte eye, you could definitely get away with very pale, frosted lips. You might look like an alien, but it will be awesome! This colour pairs very well with a pink or red lip gloss even. I'm not entirely sure, but this may have been a limited edition colour. However, I'm quite sure something similar still exists in their general collection.
[MAC's Amplified in Up The Amp]
The Amplified formula is definitely one to look into if you truly love bold lips. This is a blue toned Barbie-purple that's absolutely gorgeous! Albeit, it may be far more appropriate for other seasonal looks, but it's just so gorgeous that I would wear it anytime of the year!
[MAC's Satin in Captive]
This is a cool berry lipstick that's absolutely gorgeous as well. And because it comes as a Satin lippy, it's very smooth and creamy so it doesn't dry your lips out.
[MAC's Amplified in Dark Side]
This has been in my collection forever and it's an absolutely gorgeous deep plum shade. I do believe this is my first MAC lipstick and I stole it from my mother! It's been gross and expired for a while now and I'm waiting to Back-2-MAC it soon.
[Bobbi Brown's Port]
The name on this is so very appropriate. It truly does look like a deep wine and is so gorgeous on the lips. For both Dark Side and Port, if you aren't too keen on the fact that they look almost black when applied liberally, dab them on instead to get a pretty, stained effect, or go over it with a lighter gloss to get a gorgeous combination.
[Urban Decay's Venom]
This is my first Urban Decay lipstick and I can tell you that I want all of them! Not only are all the shades bold and gorgeous, but they are extremely creamy and non-drying. They wear like a dream and you will cover them all. This, too, is a blue-toned purple and it's one worth looking into if you are looking for a high end shade of the sort.
[The last shade is MAC's Dark Side]
If you've ever been afraid of a bold lip, you really shouldn't be! They are absolutely amazing, even though they do require a bit of maintenance. Your best bet is to get a dark liner to go with them so that when the lipstick wears off, you're left with a second layer of colour. December is the perfect time to sport these shades, and you should definitely give it a shot!
